From The Desk Of The Mayor
Help Less Fortunate Residents Of Berkeley Township

Mayor Jason Varano
BERKELEY - Leaves - We are now in the middle of fall, a season that is aptly named. The leaves are beginning to pile up, and everyone is raking them into bags. We are asking that you follow your sanitation schedule, and put your leaves and pine needles out the night before your scheduled pickup. Remember, only fill the bags half way, and do not tie them. It will not be easy to keep up with the never-ending problem of leaves and pine needles. As we try our best to get to all the bags on a timely basis, we ask for your patience and understanding.

Food Donations - As we prepare to enjoy the upcoming holiday season, this year may be particularly difficult for some of our local families. The current state of our economy has put a strain on many of the local food pantries. Churches, charities and civic organizations will be collecting food for distribution to those families that are struggling to keep food on their table.

Next week will bring the 2008 celebration of Thanksgiving, a day to give thanks for our many blessings. It is also a day to take the time to reflect on all that we have, a day to give thanks for our loved ones, our families and friends, our homes and our country. Some may travel over the Thanksgiving holiday to the homes of family or friends for their celebration, while others prepare and serve their bounty at home. No matter who prepares the meal or where we enjoy it, we should bear in mind how fortunate we are.

As we get ready to enjoy this great celebration, let us continue to remember those less fortunate than ourselves. Berkeley Township will be hosting a food drive during this holiday season for Berkeley Township's families in need. Please drop off any non-perishable food items at the Berkeley Township Recreation Center, 630 Route 9 South, Berkeley Township Town Hall, 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road, or the Holiday City at Berkeley Clubhouse, 631 Jamaica Boulevard. Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated.
